Kenyan Business Abroad
Scor Lyambila - Pharmacist & Health Care Supplier (London UK)
Business Link Kenya caught up with Scor Lyambila despite his extremely busy schedule to talk about some of the amazing ideas he has for entrepreneurs back in his native home of Kenya. Scor contends that Kenyan entrepreneurs need to understand how to diversify their revenue base especially in the current economic downturn. He has managed to practice this concept himself with great success.
Scor is a practising pharmacist based in the UK where he lives with his wife and 2 children. He also runs his own business venture sourcing and supplying medical products and equipment to Kenyan medical practitioners. His clients include Vidonge pharmacy and Mumbi pharmacy on Accra road, Jawamed pharmacy at Afya Centre among others. His mission is to make sure counterfeit medicine suppliers are eradicated from the Kenyan market. According to a recent BBC TV programme aired in London on 12th July 2010, it has been found that the profit margin for an investment in illegal drugs like cocaine is significantly lower than the profit margin for an investment in fake prescription medicines due to non-regulated online suppliers.
Scor encourages medical suppliers to source from the UK and Europe due to the strict guidelines ensuring that no unqualified individual can lay his/her hands on medical suppliers for trade purposes. What are the requirements for this type of business?
Scor advices that entry into this type of business requires a pharmacist who is registered with the Kenyan Pharmaceutical and Poisons Board to provide documentation proving their registration for verification by UK and European health agencies. In addition, he is willing to help with the sourcing of medical equipment such as lab machines, analysers, high blood pressure machines etc as well as all types of human medicines and health products.
